What is Dystonia? Dystonia is an umbrella term for a group of movement disorders in which sustained muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. It is the third most common movement disorder, after Parkinson’s disease and tremor. The movements are involuntary, sometimes painful and can be incapacitating.
